Alternative Futures for Composting in California (MS ’22)
Sasha earned her B.A. in Environmental Analysis with a minor in Spanish from Pomona College in 2014. After this she worked for 5 years for the City of San Francisco, first at the Department of the Environment and most recently at the San Francisco International Airport; she worked on outreach, education, program implementation and infrastructure improvements related to zero waste (waste sorting + waste reduction) and water conservation. At ERG she is excited to leverage her knowledge of the waste/compost world to pivot her research to better understanding the science of soil carbon sequestration agricultural methods (like compost applications), while staying attuned to societal and political systems that affect soil policy implementation across the state. She hopes to determine ways to help distribute resources and research findings on soil health + sequestration to support farmers and landowners, including the amplification of assistance programs in local jurisdictions.
