Gbemi is a MS/PhD student in the Energy and Resources Group. Her primary research revolves around electricity systems planning and markets in Nigeria and West Africa with a focus on institutional reform. She also studies educational outcomes and youth involvement in national development. Her work is motivated by a strong desire to develop tangible solutions for her home country, Nigeria and to become an exceptional leader in the continent of Africa. In addition, she currently researches energy access solutions for underserved, unincorporated communities in the Central Valley, California. Gbemi has a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering and worked in Natural Gas Pipeline design before coming to ERG.
As a media enthusiast, she has hosted radio and tv programs in the past and currently runs a podcast on wholesome success for young adults. She is also a published author of fictional novels and is passionate about the girl-child. When she is not carrying out research, writing or recording podcast episodes, Gbemi enjoys reading about African politics and history, discussing movies, styling outfits, cooking and dancing.
