SPEAKER: SERGIO CASTELLANOS
DESCRIPTION:
Emphasizing equity in the way sustainable technologies are rolled out and decision-makers develop their urban infrastructure planning is critical to ensure a movement towards a just and inclusive society, especially in the context of a clean energy transition. In this talk, I focus on two particular examples where, through a partnership with different companies, colleagues and I leverage their resources to develop indicators and explore equity issues in (1) the deployment of electric-vehicle charging infrastructure in Mexico, and (2) the adoption of solar rooftop photovoltaics in the United States.
SPEAKER:
Sergio is an Assistant Research Professional at the University of California, where he is affiliated to the Energy and Resources Group and the California Institute for Energy and Environment (CIEE), leading CIEE’s Berkeley–Mexico Energy & Climate Action Initiative. His interests lie at the intersection of energy policy and technology. He has interned at Mexico’s Energy Department (SENER, Secretaría de Energía) working in strategies for human talent development, and has led bi-national (US-Mexico) projects between energy research institutes, helping to bridge the clean energy technology gap between these countries. He holds an Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from MIT.
