THE ENERGY AND RESOURCES GROUP SPRING 2019 COLLOQUIUM SERIES PRESENTS: SPEAKER: Leonie Wenz Postdoctoral Researcher Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics University of California, Berkeley DATE: Wednesday, January 30, 2019 TIME: 4:00-5:30pm PLACE: 126 Barrows TITLE: Climate damages in a globalized world: the dynamic agent-based model Acclimate ABSTRACT: In an interconnected global economy, the effects of extreme weather events are not necessarily locally confined but can have repercussions in other parts of the world, e.g. by rippling through supply chains. A better understanding of the overall economic implications of weather extremes is important to comprehensively estimate the costs of future warming and to develop suitable adaptation strategies. In this talk, I present the dynamic agent-based model Acclimate designed to study the global economic response dynamics to weather extremes. I show results of an application of the model to heat events and river floods based on recent trade data.  BIO: Leonie Wenz is a Ciriacy-Wantrup Postdoctoral Scholar at the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics at UC Berkeley. She conducts research on the societal and economic impacts of climate change. In particular, her research focuses on the effects of weather extremes in the context of an increasingly connected world. Leonie is also interested in adaptation questions and the interaction of climate and sustainable development. She earned a PhD from the Potsdam-Institute for Climate Impact Research and holds an MSc and a BSc in Mathematics.
